River Chiropractic
The Desk Detox™ · Ottawa chiropractic care for desk professionals

Chiropractic care for Ottawa desk workers.

The Desk Detox™ is an assessment first chiropractic program for professionals who spend long hours at a desk. We evaluate posture, spinal and joint movement, and common desk related neck, shoulder, mid back, and low back complaints, then build care around what your assessment actually finds.

Chapter one · 09:00 to 15:00

Desk work can leave a pattern in how you move.

Long hours at a desk can influence how you sit, stand, and move, especially when movement breaks are limited. Scroll through a typical workday to see several posture and movement patterns that can be assessed clinically in desk based professionals.

09:02 · You sit down

Coffee's warm. For now, your posture feels fine.

Inbox open, calendar full. Many desk professionals spend much of the workday in some version of this position. You may feel fine at first, even while the amount of uninterrupted sitting starts adding up.

10:37 · Forward head posture

The screen starts winning.

The head may gradually drift toward the monitor. As it moves farther forward, the neck and upper back can work harder to support the position, which may contribute to tension later in the day.

12:15 · Rounded upper back

Lunch at the desk. The slump sets in.

After hours of screen work, the mid back can feel less comfortable with rotation and extension, particularly if your day includes long periods without changing position.

14:20 · Tight hips & hamstrings

Your hips start feeling the hours.

After prolonged sitting, the front of the hips can feel tight when you stand. That first stiff moment after a long meeting can be a useful clue to assess how your hips and lower back are moving.

15:00 · The 3 p.m. crash

The discomfort becomes harder to ignore.

By mid afternoon, stiffness or discomfort may become more noticeable and can make it harder to stay comfortable through the rest of the workday.

It may not be something you simply have to accept as part of getting older. Your workday habits, posture, and movement are worth assessing.

Tomorrow, the same day runs again. And the day after. Unless something interrupts the pattern.

Recognizing a few of these does not diagnose a condition. It means a clinical assessment can help determine whether musculoskeletal or movement factors are contributing to what you feel at your desk.

Move 01 · Assess: your starting point

Start with a chiropractic posture and movement assessment.

One comprehensive visit reviews your symptoms, health history, posture, movement, and relevant musculoskeletal findings. Recommendations come after the assessment, not before it. Here is the same figure from your workday, shown the way we assess movement in the clinic:

PhotographedMeasuredExplained
  1. Postural photo analysis

Front, side, and back photos with an on screen overlay help you review your own posture rather than a generic diagram.

  2. Movement & range of motion screen

Cervical rotation, mid back extension, hip mobility, and shoulder mechanics are assessed using relevant clinical measures.

  3. Hands on examination

Orthopedic and neurological testing is performed when clinically warranted. Findings are explained before care begins, including a diagnosis or clinical impression when appropriate within chiropractic scope.

  4. Lifestyle & workstation intake

Hours seated, workstation setup, symptoms, activity, and goals are reviewed so recommendations fit your actual workday.

  5. Your written Findings Report

A personalized report you keep, with every recommendation linked to a specific finding. No finding, no recommendation.

Credited toward your program if you enrol within 14 days. If one visit is all you want, that is fine. The assessment gives you the findings and recommendations, and you decide what happens next.

Move 02 · Reset & Rebuild: from hours to weeks

Your chiropractic care plan, laid out by phase.

The workday is measured in hours; active care is planned in phases. When a longer plan is clinically appropriate, the frequency and duration are based on your assessment findings, response to care, and goals.

Posture photos, a movement screen, hands on examination, and intake establish the clinical starting point. Findings, recommendations, options, and fees are explained before care begins.

Weeks 1 to 4

Phase 1: Reset

When indicated, this phase may use more frequent visits to address pain, stiffness, and restricted movement. Each appointment is receipted for the services delivered so you have documentation for your extended health benefits, subject to your plan.

Weeks 5 to 12

Phase 2: Rebuild

As symptoms and movement improve, care may shift toward exercise, mobility, and posture strategies that support function between visits and during your workday.

Phase 3: Maintain (optional)

Optional wellness visits may include periodic posture and movement reassessment. Membership is monthly, paid privately, and can be cancelled according to the disclosed membership terms.

Paying for it · in plain terms

Direct billing. Coverage checked. Paperwork handled.

Extended health coverage can be confusing, so we make the process clearer. Where your plan allows, River Chiropractic offers direct billing, helps you understand available coverage information, and provides itemized receipts for the services delivered.

Before you start

We help confirm your coverage

With your consent, we can help review the coverage information available through your insurer, including chiropractic limits and direct billing eligibility. Final coverage and reimbursement remain subject to your individual insurance plan.

At the desk

Direct billing where available

We offer direct billing to many extended health insurers through our clinic billing platforms. When your plan permits direct billing, the insurer may pay an eligible portion directly and you are responsible for any remaining balance.

Every visit

The admin lands on us

Every appointment produces an itemized receipt for the services delivered. If direct billing is not available, we provide the documentation you need to submit a claim to your insurer.

Receipted per visit

Every appointment is receipted for exactly the services performed that day, by code.

Claim your coverage

If your plan cannot be billed directly, you can submit your itemized receipt for reimbursement when chiropractic coverage is included in your extended health plan.

Two clean lanes

Insurance eligible treatment and privately paid wellness membership are kept separate.

"Hands on care may address the symptoms and movement restrictions we find. Exercise and ergonomic changes can support mobility, strength, and workday habits between visits."

Asked before booking.

Is this covered by insurance?

Chiropractic services are commonly included in extended health plans, but coverage varies by policy. River Chiropractic offers direct billing to many insurers when the plan permits it. If direct billing is not available, we provide an itemized receipt for the services delivered so you can submit the claim yourself. The optional maintenance membership is wellness care paid privately and is not submitted to insurance.

Do I need a referral?

No. You can book your Desk Detox Assessment directly. A physician referral is not generally required to see a chiropractor in Ontario, although an individual insurance plan may have its own reimbursement requirements.

How long is the program?

Program length is individualized. When a phased plan is appropriate, the timing and visit frequency depend on your assessment findings, goals, response to care, and clinical need. Optional maintenance is separate from active care.

What if I just want one visit?

That's completely fine. The assessment tells us what you need, and you decide from there. There's no obligation to enrol in anything.

What happens if I stop partway through?

You simply stop. Billing is per visit. You pay for appointments and services you actually receive, so there is no prepaid treatment package to unwind.

Will I be sold services I don't need?

Recommendations are based on documented assessment findings, clinical judgment, your goals, and informed consent. The reasoning for recommended care is explained in your Findings Report, and fees are disclosed before treatment begins.

17:00 · End of the old workday

Start with one measured hour.

One visit gives you a clinical starting point, clear findings, and recommended next steps. You decide what happens from there.
